June 2011 - Summer Count down

June has been such a busy month we haven’t even had time to enjoy the lovely weather.

Our focus topic this month has been life cycles. We have read and listened to The Very Hungry Caterpillar story so many times the children (even the babies) know what’s going to happen next. We have made some lovely cress caterpillars and we decorated and wore giant butterfly wings.

We were also lucky enough to be given a tank full of frogs spawn which has been fantastic to watch develop, we are going to have to watch very closely now the tadpoles have legs because as soon as the frogs appear and are able to hop they will have to go back to next doors pond, we don’t want frogs hopping all over the playroom.

June included National Bowling week and we made the most of it. Hollywood Bowl was very accepting of our noise and hap hazard bowling style.

We celebrated our own mini Wimbledon at the end of the month at Blackbrook Leisure Centre, the babies had a great time crawling under and around the net but everyone had a great time collecting the tennis balls.

Our focus number this month was 6 and we used lots of different shades or purple and blue paint on our butterfly wings.

NEXT MONTH National Ice cream Month (any excuse)

May 2011 - Enjoying the sunshine

May has been a red hot month, the weather has been fantastic. We have been especially busy in the garden.

We have planted our strawberry plants in some old welly boots and they have grown like wild fire. We planted out our sunflower and pumpkin plants. The competition is now on for the tallest sunflower and the biggest pumpkin.

We have had some lovely days out this month, we went to Creally park and Eve and Callum got to bottle feed some orphan baby goats. We spent a fantastic day in Vivary park riding our scooters, feeding the ducks and having a picnic.

We have also been enjoying going to the park looking for rabbits and playing football.

Our focus topic this month has been People Who Help Us, the home corner has been a post office, a police station and a fire station this month. We also made our own lollypop person signs.

Our special number this month was 5 and we made five little speckled frogs.

April 2011 - Easter Holidays and Royal Weddings

The Easter holidays came along really quickly and lasted ages this month with the children spending only 8 days out of the month at school.

We have had a very busy month making the most of the holidays and the fine weather.

We have had some fabulous days out at Blue Anchor Beach and Fyne Court Nature Walk. We have also been practicing riding bikes in the park.

Over the holidays we planted our sweet pea shoots and our sunflower and pumpkin seeds.

We celebrated Easter in style with a traditional Easter Egg hunt in the park with a group of other childminders and their minded children, the sun was shining so we had some very soggy chocolate eggs by the end of the afternoon. We also made some Easter baskets by weaving paper and we had a fantastic Easter bonnet parade in the playroom.

The Royal wedding didn’t go uncelebrated either when we all became prince or princesses for the day complete with hand made crowns and patriotically decorated cupcakes for our royal garden party.

We continued looking at Spring as our focus topic this month and we celebrated our pets. We visited the garden centres pets corner and the local Pets at Home store. We made our own goldfish tanks and we made a collage of all the pets we could think of. Number 4 was our focus this month and the colours blue and purple.

March 2011 - SPRING HAS SPRUNG

March has been a getting ready month. We have been digging and weeding the garden ready to plant all our lovely flowers and vegetables. We have made a start by planting our seed potatoes and tomato seeds. The garden toys have been liberated from there winter hibernation in the shed and we now have nice clean sand in the sand pit outside. The guinea pigs are now back in there outside hutch, I’m sure they miss the hustle and bustle of the inside because every time the back door opens they are squeaking for attention.

We celebrated Mothers Day and Red Nose Day this month. This year we made finger painted watering cans complete with seeds for our mummies and we made special chocolate truffles as a mothers day present. We celebrated Red Nose Day with a large group of other childminders and there minded children with a special Gruffalo story time and tea party were we raised £250.

Our focus topics this month were Spring and Farm Animals. We made wiggly worm number 3’s and read about the three little pigs. We also focussed on the colours Orange and Yellow making some fabulous egg box daffodil’s.

February 2011 - Kung Hei Fat Choi ! (Happy Chinese New Year)

What a lovely month it has been, we’ve celebrated Chinese new year, and Valentines day.

For Chinese new year, the year of the rabbit we made paper lanterns, rabbit masks and clay dragons which we painted red and decorated with lots of glitter. We tried eating with chop sticks and we turned our home corner into a Chinese takeaway.

For Valentines day we made lovely cards to take home and we made special boxes of love filled with hugs and kisses for someone special. We also made heart biscuits and decorated them with pink and red icing.

We had a lovely half term at the end of the month when we went bowling for the afternoon with everyone even the babies taking part.

Our focus colours this month were pink and red. Our focus number this month was 2. In our table tray this month we played with dry pasta and rice and some wiggly cooked noodles.

The bulbs have exploded in the garden and we have loads of daffodils and the tulips are poking through too.
