Joanne Edwards -> EYFS and Planner

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

EYFS came into force in September 2008 and applies to children from birth to the 31 August following their 5th birthday. All childcare providers including Registered Childminders, are required to follow EYFS and work together to support the children in their care.

In line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) I link activities with different theme calendars and take my lead from the children.

Planning, for babies and toddlers up to 3, is based around PLAY and...

    1. Children's interests and schemas / learning styles;

    2. The time of the year - seasons, weather etc;

    3. Important times in the children's lives;

    4. What the children are doing in other settings eg. at home or in nursery.

I believe in learning through play and my setting is designed that children are free to move around both indoors and out and choose what they want to do. I encourage children to access their own resources and I support individual learning and through observation and planning of activities which meet all the children’s unique needs.

Your child’s day will include a variety of structured activities, crafts, cutting and sticking, painting, dough, cooking, story time, singing and music. Time is set aside for quite time and rests/naps where appropriate, also time is set for physical play and free play, with a range of toys to stimulate the imagination, challenge the child intellectually and encourage independence in learning. Children have access to all the toys and equipment themselves. They are encouraged to select for themselves and put away when finished or wanting to move onto something new.

I believe in lots of fresh air and outside play, so weather permitting we will be outside for some part of the day. We have a well equipted back garden with a slide see-saw and trampoline. We also have a shed full of outdoor play toys.
